<p><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;">Australia</span></st1:place></st1:country-region><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;"> has become the subject of international ridicule, and not just becaue we can't win a footy game.<br /> The recent riots in The Shire have hit headlines around the world sparking belief that racism is arife in Australian society.<br /> This has been accompianied by media reports in </span><st1:place><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;">Asia</span></st1:place><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;"> that </span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;">Australia</span></st1:place></st1:country-region><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;"> is soft on drugs and is losing the battle against such a culture. These reports have been significantly influenced by the increasing media attention payed to the increasing numbers of Australians being caught smuggling drugs in </span><st1:place><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;">South East Asia</span></st1:place><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;">.<br /> This is all of course in line with Prime Minister Howard's visit to </span><st1:place><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;">Asia</span></st1:place><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;"> for a number of conferences with other world leaders.<br /> It is disapointing to see a nation like </span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;">Australia</span></st1:place></st1:country-region><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: georgia;"> recieve such a negative backlash due to the socially ignorant actions of a few individuals.<br /> Those who have fuelled the riots in the shire have embarressed themselves, a community and a nation.<o:p /></span></p>
